Sumatra Takengon “Golden Gayo”

High Quality Green Coffee Beans

Sumatra Takengon “Golden Gayo”

Located in the Takengon highlands of the northern Aceh province on the island of Sumatra.  This is a premium Sumatran coffee grown at high altitudes. The Takengon cooperatives are run mainly by women from the Gayoneese ethnic group because many of the men were killed or exiled during the “Free Ache Movement” that actively resisted Indonesian government control until as recently as 2005.   The movement actually has its roots going back to the 18th century when Dutch colonialism ruled the day.

The beans are clean, fresh, and have few defects.  The beans have undergone a triple-pick sorting process in which any undesirables have been hand picked and discarded.

Cupping Notes:  Aroma:  Pipe tobacco, winey.  Moderately intense cedar on the wet break.  Semi-sweet chocolate, orange, and pine nuts.  Long, sweet aftertaste.

Roasting Notes:  Taking it right to 2nd crack or even slightly into 2nd brings out the chocolate notes.  While the beans hold up well to dark roasting, City + brings out amazing orange acidity that will vanish out the roaster exhaust beyond this point.
